Picnic Fun for Forgetful Fred
“How was work today?” asked Sarah when she saw her husband, Forgetful Fred, coming through the door.
“It was exhausting!” cried Forgetful Fred. “Don’t ask me why because I don’t remember.”
“Would it have something to do with that piece of paper sticking out of your shirt pocket?” asked Sarah.
“Oh yes,” said Forgetful Fred, taking the piece of paper out of his pocket and handing it to Sarah.
“A scavenger hunt at the annual company picnic,” read Sarah aloud. “Why is that exhausting? It sounds like fun.”
“Maybe for everyone else,” mumbled Forgetful Fred. “However, it won’t be any fun for me. I can’t even remember if I tied my shoes this morning.”
“Oh now,” said Sarah, in her most convincing voice. “It will be fun. Besides, it does say that you will be paired up with me, so there is no way we will lose.”
“I suppose,” said Forgetful Fred.
“The grand prize is $200,” said Sarah. “That would go a long way.”
“True,” said Forgetful Fred.
The day of the annual picnic arrived, and it turned out to be a beautiful summer day. The sun was shining, and the park was filled with the laughter of families and colleagues. Forgetful Fred was nervous, but he knew Sarah was there to help him.
“The first item we need to find is a tree with a heart carved in it,” said Sarah, reading from the pamphlet they received when they entered the park. “Remember the day we met and you carved that heart in the tree in this very park?”
“Yes,” said Forgetful Fred, looking around the park. “It is right over there.”
Forgetful Fred pointed to a huge maple tree by the river.
“Close,” said Sarah. “It is actually the huge oak tree beside it.”
Forgetful Fred and Sarah ran to the maple tree and sure enough, there was the heart Forgetful Fred had carved years ago.
“This is fun,” said Forgetful Fred, smiling.
Forgetful Fred and Sarah had a blast together, finding different clues throughout the park. They were able to find them in record time and were the winners of the grand prize.
That evening, Forgetful Fred took Sarah out for a lovely dinner with their winnings. They reminisced about the day’s adventures and laughed about Fred’s forgetfulness. It had been a fun day for everyone, and Fred realized that with Sarah by his side, he could handle anything.
