Dancing on Canada Day
“Do you have any plans for Canada Day?” asked Jayden’s neighbor, Mrs. Jones.
“I thought I would catch up on some reading,” said Jayden. “You know, just enjoy some quiet time.”
“Nonsense,” said Mrs. Jones. “Come join us for Canada Day. We are going to have a BBQ, and I have baked a ton of red and white cupcakes.”
Jayden was going to decline the offer but then thought better of it. Mr. and Mrs. Jones had always been good neighbors, and they were also lots of fun to be with.
“Okay,” said Jayden. “I will spend Canada Day with you.”
“That is wonderful,” said Mr. Jones.
Jayden showed up at the Jones’ residence about two hours later, bringing Mrs. Jones a bouquet of fresh flowers.
“I hope you are enjoying yourself,” said Mrs. Jones, a little while later.
“Yes,” said Jayden. “I am definitely enjoying myself.”
“Good,” said Mrs. Jones. “Have you ever line dancing?”
“No,” said Jayden. “But I have always wanted to learn.”
“Wonderful,” said Mrs. Jones.
Mr. Jones got up from the table and put some country music on. Mrs. Jones took Jayden’s hand, and the two were soon line dancing like pros.
“This is so much fun,” said Jayden.
“Yes,” said Mrs. Jones. “Line dancing is a lot of fun, and it is nice to have someone I can dance with. Mr. Jones doesn’t do much dancing these days because of an old injury to his knees.”
As the evening progressed, the aroma of grilled delicacies filled the air, and the backyard was adorned with fluttering red and white decorations. Laughter and music created a festive atmosphere. Jayden felt grateful for having accepted the invitation instead of spending Canada Day alone with books.
The sun began its descent, casting an orange glow over the happy faces around. As fireworks painted streaks of red and white across the night sky, Jayden realized that sometimes unplanned celebrations could lead to cherished memories.
