A Fiery Father’s Day
“Are you going to see your dad this Father’s Day?” asked Fred the Firefighters boss, Craig.
Yes,” said Fred the Firefighter. “I am going to see him in the nursing home we just put him in. You know, he still to this day, talks about the time I took him for a ride in the old fire truck.”
“He still remembers that?” asked Craig. “That was a few years ago now.”
“Yes,” said Fred. “He does remember it. He enjoyed that so much.”
Craig fished out a set of keys from his pocket and handed them to Fred.
“What’s this?” asked Fred.
“The old fire engine sure needs a good cleaning,” winked Craig.
“Dad is going to love this,” said Fred.
“I am sure he will,” said Craig.
On Father’s Day morning, Fred took the old fire engine to the car wash and cleaned it inside and out. Then he went to the nursing home and took his dad for a ride in it.
“The old girl is still running,” commented Fred’s Dad, as he got up into the cab.
“She sure is,” said Fred.
“It sure is nice of Craig to let you take me for a ride in it,” said Fred’s Dad.
“Yes,” said Fred. “It certainly is. Craig said to say hi.”
“Well,” said Dad. “You tell Craig I said hi too and I appreciate this very much.”
“How about you say hi to him yourself?” asked Fred, pulling the old fire engine into the station. “Craig is working today.”
Craig shook hands with Fred’s Dad.
“It sure is nice to see you again,” said Fred’s Dad. “I truly appreciate you letting Fred take me for a ride in the old fire engine.”
“It did need a good cleaning,” laughed Craig.
“Yes,” said Fred’s Dad. “I noticed the fresh wax on it, when Fred picked me up in it.”
Fred handed the keys to the old fire engine back to Craig.
“Go ahead and take your dad back to the nursing home in it,” said Craig.
Fred’s Dad was in his glory. He was thrilled to be able to have another ride with his son in the old fire engine and when he got back to the nursing home, he was the talk of all the ladies.
“Happy Father’s Day,” waved Fred, after dropping his dad off at the nursing home.
“Thank you son,” said his dad, walking up the pathway of the nursing home with two of his lady friends. “This was a great Father’s Day.”
