Baxter the Beaver Stories
Baxter the Beaver is a hardworking rodent living in Storyland Canada’s Big Dark Forest who represents the engineering marvels and adaptive nature of beavers. Created on October 22, 1993, Baxter is a skilled swimmer with exceptional abilities—webbed feet, a flat tail, and special chisel-like teeth that allow him to fell poplar and hardwood trees and eat their nutritious bark. His true passion and purpose lie in building and maintaining impressive dams that store water during dry seasons and prevent destructive floods, using branches from felled trees weighted down with mud and rocks. Baxter’s mud-and-stick home, built in ponds and streams with air holes for breathing, serves as a testament to his engineering prowess and dedication to his craft. A devoted family creature, Baxter’s kits are born in early spring with eyes open and soft fuzzy fur, continuing his lineage. As a diligent nocturnal worker, Baxter exemplifies hard work and purpose, engaging anyone who takes time to watch him with his fascinating and purposeful activities. He represents the industrious spirit and the beaver’s vital ecological role in shaping and managing water systems.
