Skinny Matilda and an Ice Cream Cone

Skinny Matilda went to the beach. It was a warm summer day. The sun was shining and the water looked so inviting.

Skinny Matilda walked right past the ice-cream stand, without even looking at it. Back when Skinny Matilda was fat, she would have eaten two large ice-cream cones. Now, she doesn’t even want one.

“Hey,” Skinny Matilda heard someone call out to her. “Aren’t you Matilda?”

Skinny Matilda turned around to see who was talking to her. She saw it was Ben, the owner of the ice-cream stand.

“Yes,” said Skinny Matilda. “I am Matilda.”

“You sure have lost a lot of weight,” said Ben.

“Thank you,” said Skinny Matilda.

“So,” said Ben. “Do you want an ice-cream cone?”

“No thank you,” said Skinny Matilda.

“I remember when you used to eat two large cones at a time,” said Ben.

“That was then,” said Skinny Matilda, holding her head up high, proudly. “This is now.”

Skinny Matilda walked away.

“Are you sure?” asked the owner.

Skinny Matilda didn’t respond. She just kept walking.
