Desert Kid Wishing for Rain

Desert Kid was walking through the Okanagan Valley in British Columbia, Canada. It was a very hot and dry summer, so far.

“The sticks and twigs crack under my feet when I walk on them,” said Desert Kid. “The grass is brown and dry.”

Desert Kid walked along and it wasn’t long before he came across his old friend, Safety Kid. Desert Kid waved and Safety Kid waved back.

“Hello Desert Kid,” said Safety Kid. “It sure has been hot in the Okanagan Valley so far this summer.”

“Yes,” said Desert Kid. “It has been hot. A nice rain storm would be perfect right about now.”

“It would,” agreed Safety Kid. “However, a rain storm may lead to thunder and lightning and considering how dry everything is, we don’t want lightning to cause fires. There are already several fires burning in the area right now that are caused by lightning.”

“You are correct,” said Desert Kid.

“I agree though that rain would be nice,” said Safety Kid. “The Okanagan Valley sure could use it.”

“We just have to be careful what we ask for,” said Desert Kid, laughing.

“Yes,” agreed Safety Kid, also laughing. “We do.”

Moral of this Story:

  • Be careful what you ask for.
  • Example: Desert Kid wanted rain but Safety Kid reminded him that rain could cause lightning which could cause fires.
