Slow-Poke Was Too Late for Groundhog Day

“Slow-Poke,” said Mother Duck. “Please hurry and get your boots on. We want to get to the park before the groundhog comes out of his hole.”

“I’m trying,” cried Slow-Poke. “But my one boot is stuck under the chair.”

Mother helped get his boot out from under the chair and then she helped him put it on.

“I sure hope the groundhog doesn’t see his shadow today,” said Mother. “I really want an early spring. This winter has been horrible.”

Slow-Poke and Mother finally made it to the park. Unfortunately, by the time they got there, the groundhog had already come out of his hole.

“We missed Groundhog Day,” said Slow-Poke. “I am sorry that I was so slow.”

“That is okay,” said Mother, seeing the groundhog still sitting outside of his hole. “I got my wish. The groundhog is still sitting outside of his hole. That means he did not see his shadow.”

“So that means an early spring,” said Slow-Poke.

“Yes,” said Mother. “An early spring it is!”

“Oh goodie,” said Slow-Poke, happily.

Moral of this Story:

  • Being slow isn’t always a bad thing.
  • Example: Slow-Poke took too long to put his boots on but they still got to the park to see the groundhog sitting outside of his hole.
