Victor – A Monster’s Diary – Entry 22 – Summer as a Kid

Dear Diary:

Today I was bored, so I walked over to the park across the street. There were a lot of children there because, after all, it was a very hot summer day.

I was skeptical about being in the park with that many children because I was afraid the children would tease me. However, I didn’t have to worry about that because not one of those children took their eyes off their electronics devices. They were all so busy playing games or texting their friends to even care that there was a monster in their midst.

Now, you might be thinking that maybe I was going to cause harm to these children, but, I love children and I could never dream of harming any of them.

While I watched the children, I couldn’t help but think back to my childhood, almost 200 years ago. When I was a youngster, I could never dream of my parents just letting us sit in a park for hours on end. We didn’t have any type of electronic equipment. We were told to run and play. We were told to be physical, to get up and enjoy the fresh air and get some exercise. My childhood was so much different than that of today’s children.

Sitting in the park, I looked around at the parents of these children and they were just as bad as the children. They were all either talking to someone on their phones or texting with someone. Not a single parent was interacting with their children. It made me think again of my childhood and how we used to enjoy spending time with our parents.

We sure do live in different times these days and I am not so sure I like it.

Moral of this Story:

  • We should try to spend more time away from our electronic devices.
  • Example: Victor noticed children and their parents were too busy with their electronic devices to pay attention to him and each other.
