Christopher Corn’s Birthday Bash

“I heard Christopher tell Farmer Fred that it is his birthday today,” said Mrs. Tomato.

“You know,” said Olive Onion. “Christopher has done so much for all of us. We should give him a surprise birthday bash.”

“Yes,” agreed Cameron Cauliflower, who started dancing. “I think that is the best idea we have ever had.”

“We have to make sure he doesn’t find out about it,” said Oliver Onion.

“That will be the hardest part, “said Calvin Carrot. “After all, we do live and work together 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.”

“I have the most free time,” said Oliver. “I am the songwriter after all and most of the new songs have already been written for the Labour Day concert.”

“Okay,” said Cameron. “That is good to know. We will be counting on you to get the party supplies for us.”

“Olive and I can bake the cake,” said Mrs. Tomato. “We can do that when Christopher has his nap.”

“Good,” said Calvin.” Maybe Farmer Fred will let you bake it up at the main house. That way, Christopher won’t know a thing about it.”

Mrs. Tomato and Olive baked the cake up at Farmer Fred’s house with Farmer Fred’s permission. They baked it in the shape of a guitar. It turned out perfectly. Oliver worked hard getting all the supplies needed. Cameron worked on a birthday dance routine and Calvin wrote a birthday song for Christopher.

After practice, late that afternoon, Farmer Fred asked Christopher to come up to his house. Farmer Fred was to keep him up there for as long as he could so that the rest of the Fresh Veggie family could get the barn ready for the party.

“Happy Birthday,” said Farmer Fred, handing Christopher a gift-wrapped parcel.

“Thank you,” said Christopher Corn, unwrapping the parcel.

Christopher was speechless. In the parcel that Farmer Fred gave him was a brand new guitar.

“I don’t know what to say,” said Christopher, blown away. “I love it!”

“Play something for me,” said Farmer Fred.

“Happy birthday to me,” sang Christopher, in his typical screaming voice style.

“I love it!” laughed Farmer Fred.

“Thank you so much,” said Christopher. “I have to go show the guitar to the others.”

Christopher was out the door before Farmer Fred could stop him. He quickly followed him down to the barn.

“Christopher,” yelled Farmer Fred, loud enough so that everyone could hear him. “You didn’t finish your birthday song for me.”

The rest of the Fresh Veggie family quickly finished setting up and got into their hiding places quickly.

“Surprise!” everyone yelled when Christopher and Farmer Fred entered the barn.

Christopher was so surprised that he had tears rolling down his cheeks.

“Thank you so much!” cried Christopher. “Nobody has ever done anything like this for me.”

Cameron broke out into his birthday dance while Calvin got on the drums and sang his birthday song to Christopher. Christopher grabbed his new guitar. He strummed it and then started dancing with Cameron. Mrs. Tomato and Olive joined him onstage while Oliver and Farmer Fred started to dance.

“I want to thank all of you,” cried Christopher. “This is the best birthday ever!”
